Bed Bugs

There are two words that now strike fear in Americans and are a much greater threat than those three. Those words are Bed Bugs. According to a study done at Mississippi State University,  Bed Bugs can cause long lasting anxiety and PTSD symptoms.

Bed Bugs are now being found in places we visit every day, such as hospitals, libraries, nursing homes, all level of schools, college facilities and dorms and public transportation. Two of the top places to pick up Bed Bugs is at the movies and in an airport. You can get them in the planes as well. Bed Bugs are not just found in the stereotypical places anymore like homeless shelters and motels and cross all cultural, religious and economic lines.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, to identify a possible infestation, look for physical signs of Bed Bugs. When cleaning, changing bedding, or staying away from home, look for:

• Live Bed Bugs.
• Rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses caused by Bed Bugs being crushed.
• Eggs and eggshells, which are tiny (about 1mm) and pale-yellow skins that nymphs shed as they grow larger.
• Dark spots (about this size: •), which are Bed Bug excrement and may bleed on the fabric like a marker would.

There are also signs that you may have been attacked by Bed Bugs. You will see clusters or lines of several red, round marks. They usually appear where skin is exposed: face, shoulders and legs.
